Stephen "Bus" Bussell


  • How have you worked at The Brew Hut? I have been working at The Brew Hut for 6 1/2 years this month 

  • How long have you been homebrewing? I’ve been brewing since 1990. 32 Years

  • How did you first get into homebrewing? I started brewing in 1990 after attending a party in Boulder. Charlie Papazian was there and had brought some homebrew to try. 


  • What do you enjoy most about working at The Brew Hut? I enjoy hearing “thanks” from customers as well as the comradery with the team. 

  • What did you do prior to working for The Brew Hut? I was retired and had worked in construction for 35 years. 

  • What are your favorite styles to make? West Coast IPA’s, Stouts, Big Red Wines, White Wine Blends and Rosé

  • Describe your brewing system or equipment.  I have an all-grain setup that is capable of brewing anything from 5 to 40 gallons. It has three sanke kegs that have been customized as boil kettles as well as another sanke as an HLT. A large cooler as a Mash Tun as well as a RIMS system with a pump station, plate chiller, and oxygen system. 



  • What piece of equipment or brewing process has made the most difference in your beer and/or wine? I have an American Sanke keg fermentor kit with a thermowell. I can do closed system transfers of the beer and all I ever lift is the empty keg. 


  • What other fermented beverages have you made? I make Beer, Wine, Tepache, and Kombucha


  • List of any other hobbies or interests. I enjoy cooking, camping, grooming my dogs as well as rug weaving.
