Customer of the Month – Mike LaFoley

Mike LaFoley

Could you tell us a little bit about your background?
I am a former hot air balloon pilot from the 70’s and 80’s and flew in the winter Olympics in France representing the U. S.  I am also a former coffee farm owner in Panama where my wife and I spent 10 years growing, marketing and giving tours of our operation.  We also lived on our sailboat and cruised the East coast and the Bahamas.  We are currently visiting Ireland quite a bit.

How long have you been wine making?
I’ve been home brewing wine for a little over 3 years now.  I usually have 2-4 going at a time.  I’ve done over 60 kits now.  As you know there are always subtle changes to the process you make over time and that has been enjoyable and interesting.  I currently have a cellar of over 500 bottles.  My neighbors have reaped the rewards with many bottles of my wine.

What is your favorite type of wine to make?
I don’t really have a favorite wine.  I am always trying new kits that I haven’t heard of that sound interesting.

Are you a member of any clubs or organizations?
I am a former Rotary Club member.

What other fermented beverages have you made?
I also brew Kombucha.

List of any other hobbies or interests.
My other hobbies are cooking and walking.
