The brewery was Aurora, Colorado’s first when owners Kevin DeLange and Michelle Reding opened with a 7 BBL brewhouse in a 900-square-foot space in 2005.
The award aims to recognize the integral role that homebrew shops play in their local community. Not only do homebrew shops supply ingredients and equipment to make beer and other fermented foods and beverages at home, they often supply small craft breweries. It is also a gathering spot for homebrew clubs, a host for local competitions and a source for learning new hobbies.
To win this award, members of the AHA nominate shops that excel in community support, education, customer service, and responsible business practices. A panel of judges from the AHA Governing Committee, local shops and homebrewers then select the Homebrew Shop of the Year.
The Brew Hut has been a staple in Aurora for 25 years, serving homebrewers in Colorado since 1995.
In 2002, current owners Michelle Reding and Kevin DeLange purchased The Brew Hut from its founder, Scott Newcomb. The location has since expanded and evolved with the addition of a grain room, a classroom and even the birth of its sister company, Dry Dock Brewing Co., in 2005.
In addition to selling equipment and supplies for beer, The Brew Hut sells supplies for homebrewing wine, ciders, kombucha and meads. They also sell kits for making cheese and pickled vegetables and offer classes for all skill levels!
The owners and staff are friendly and well-educated, offering expert advice. With the focus on inclusion, community, and great customer service, The Brew Hut has been a haven for hobbyists all over the Denver metro area.
